The first pictures below are from when Lewis Paint & Body first started taking everything apart. After that, a significant amount of time and sweat was put into removing all the body imperfections. The worst damage was to the driver's rear quarter panel, which was previously repaired prior to my purchasing the car. Lewis Paint & Body removed all the bondo and paint and redid the work the right way, with a great attention to detail. Now the car is being primed and block sanded! After finding out that my RX-7 would take longer in the body shop than originally anticipated, my awesome friend Tim offered to let me borrow his baby, the second generation RX-7 convertible you see below. What an excellent loaner car, especially with the perfect spring weather we've been having! The pictures below mark the fourth week the car has been at Lewis Paint & Body. Not only can you see progress, but I bet the car would be very fast right now with the excellent cooling mods and extreme weight reduction measures taken! This marks the fifth week and a major milestone. The seats are finished and some of the panels removed from the car now have black paint and four clear coats on them. The painted parts have a thick layer of shop dust right now and still require final sanding and polishing. Another milestone--the car itself is all black now! I came after all the plastic body parts had been completed and just as they were making final preparations to start spraying the basecoat on the car's body. Below are pictures after the black base coat and four clear coats have been applied to the car. Next it's time to reassemble the car and start sanding. Six and a half weeks at the body shop, and now the car is coming back together. This isn't an extra vehicle, so I will be very glad to have the car back soon. Now it's all done! |
